Charles Edward Johnson, Jr. is playing in Major League since last 12 years. Charles has never compromised with the bat. At times he gets be overwhelmed inside and then follows the pitch low and away but when he receives an average fastball he shows all his power to play the game. Charles is counted among the slowest players on the roster. Though he received Gold Glove four times but he became burden for Rockies during his last days with the team. Charles began his career as starting catcher and contributed his efforts for the United States Olympic Team in Barcelona , Spain in 1992. Prior to this year he played in 1991 Pan American Games in Havana , Cuba as a player of U.S. National Team and hit .242. Johnson also participated in the 1988 World Junior Championships that held in Australia and where USA Junior National Team won gold medal for the country. An alma mater of Ft. Pierce Westwood High School was selected as all-state catcher three times during his high school. In 1989, Charles was named Gatorade Player of the Year for the State of Florida .
In his 12 seasons of professional career, Johnson has served many teams that includes Florida Marlins (1994-1998, 2001), Los Angeles Dodgers (1998), Baltimore Orioles (1999-2000), Chicago White Sox (2000), and Colorado Rockies (2003-2004) and recently he played for Tampa Bay Devil Rays (2005). During his professional career, Johnson is a .245 hitter with 167 home runs and 570 RBI in 1188 games. Apart from his Major League professional life, Johnson does charity too. He hosts a group of 50 kids every Saturday game at Coors Field in Denver and provides transportation, t-shirts, tickets and food vouchers. Johnson repeated this at Pro Player Stadium when he was a member of the Florida Marlins . Charles denotes his time to the Denver Action Team, a youth volunteer initiative through the MLBPA and participates in MLB's "Base for Auction" program, in which catchers from each team sign a base to be auctioned off for charity. Charles and his wife Rhonda are blessed with two sons.
