Neife Perez is a professional baseball player who is currently playing with the Chicago Cubs. He has played with as number of teams in his career. He was with the Colorado Rockies from 1996 and again for a period in 2001, from 2001 till 2002 he was playing with the Kansas City Royals, in 2003 he joined San Francisco Giants. Perez joined the Chicago Cubs in 2004 where he is playing currently. His full name is Neifi Neftali Perez Diaz and is commonly referred as Perez. His name Neifi is pronounced as NAY-fee. He was born on June 2, 1973 in Villa Mella, Dominican Republic . Perez stands to 6'0” and weighs 175 Ib. He is a switch hitter who comfortably plays in both sides but is better to throw in the right side of the plate. Perez captivated the Gold Glove at shortstop in the 2000. In late 2004, he was signed to a minor-league contract by the Cubs which happened after he was released by the San Francisco Giants, Perez was called up and September by the Cubs, and becoming a much needed spark plug in the lineup, going 6 for 6 in his first 6 at-bats as a Cub. In 2005 he got off to start as he filled the place of Nomar Garciaparra who was injured. Perez has signed a 2-year contract with the Cubs on November 8, 2005. Neifi Perez went 3-for-4, including his third homer of the spring, a solo drive against Mark Buehrle in the seventh. He played most games since 2000. His biggest hit was a game-winning grand slam with two out in the 10th inning July 24 at St. Louis . He hit .281 at Wrigley Field.
