Michael Patrick Barrett is a catcher for the Chicago Cubs in Major League Baseball. Michael was born October 22, 1976 and is a resident of Atlanta , Georgia . Michael received his first career Silver Slugger Award in 2005 season for which he batted .276 with 32 doubles, 16 home runs and 61 RBI and his 16 homers ranked second among National League catchers. Barrett started his professional career in 1995, when he was picked up by Montreal Expos out of Pace Academy in Atlanta , Georgia in the first- round. In minors, Barrett played both as third base as well as catcher. Oakland Athletics drafted Michael after 2003 season, but he changed the teams very soon and he was picked up by Cubs for veteran catcher Damian Miller.
In 2004, Barrett hit .287, with 16 home runs, and 65 RBI and astonished everyone with a rock-hard year. Barrett was one of the superior hitting backstops in the National League, while his defense was just usual. In 2005, though Michael made some rather costly defensive mistakes but he had another good season when he won his first silver slugger award, his most excellent month of the season was May, when he hit .348 with 11 RBI in 21 games and recorded a .320 average off left-handed pitchers, going 40-for-125 with 13 doubles, 7 homers and 24 RBI. Barrett made season's best nine-game hitting streak from May 7-May 18. His fans believe that he may turn out to be one of the best catchers in the course. Along with a good player Barrett is a kind human being too. He with his cousin, Scott Fletcher focused on his charitable efforts on children, working with the Make-A-Wish Foundation and with local children's hospitals.
