New York is the largest city in the United States and it's population estimate as of 2003, was about 8.1 million, which puts it number one in the United States of Am erica. New York city is also the second most populous city in North America, first is Mexico city. New York city has a huge population of immigrants from over one hundred and eighty countries. New York City is famously referred to as "the Big Apple." New York City is part of the New York Metropolitan Area, which has over twenty two million inhabitants thus making it one of the biggest urban conglomerations in the world. The New York City constitutes of five boroughs: Queens, Staten Island, Brooklyn, Manhattan and the Bronx. If new York city were to be compared to any state in the US it would come in sixth. The cit serves as a huge engine for the global economy, having an estimated gross metropolitan product of close to five hundred billion as of two years ago. New York City is viewed as one of the most important cities in the world along with Paris, London and Tokyo.
