The Seattle Mariners are a Major League Baseball team that belongs to the West Division of the American League. Mariners are based in Seattle, Washington. In 1976, the team was established as an expansion team, which again deported Major League Baseball to Seattle city after the departure of the Seattle Pilots to Milwaukee in 1970. The Mariners played their first game in April 1977 to a sold-out mass of 57,762 at the Kingdome. During the 1970s and 1980s the club is portrayed by persistent failures. Till 1991, the mariners could record any win in their account they finished last or next-to-last in their division in 10 of their first 13 seasons. Though mariner was core of finest players of baseball including stars such as Gaylord Perry (who was introduced into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1991, spent the final two years of his 20+ season career with Seattle and was given the nickname "The Ancient Mariner"), Alvin Davis (American League Rookie of the Year (1984)), Harold Reynolds (two-time All-Star (1987-88) and three-time Gold-Glover (1988-90)), and Mark Langston (league-leader in strikeouts pitched (1984, 1986-87)),  but the franchise attained a status for pitiable performances and trailing records.

Under the direction of Jim Lefebvre, the Mariners registered their first victory in 1991. Though the team ranked fifth in their seven-team division, but it is considered as a good season.  Fortunes of the team took a turn and a squad of strong players built around center fielder Ken Griffey, Jr., pitcher Randy Johnson and designated hitter Edgar Martinez and in 1995 Season the mariners beat New York Yankees in Divisions Series. After the 1999 season two major events took place in the history of the team first team started playing in their new stadium SAFECO Field and second when Ken Griffey, Jr. requested and attained a trade to the Cincinnati Reds. The Mariners continued to be viable in 7 of the 9 seasons from 1995 to 2003. Mariners saw a season of drop in the 2004 year. After the 2004 season  lot of modifications were made but all went in vain because the franchise still ranked at the bottom divisional standings throughout the 2005 season and finished in last place, though they won six more games than the year before. The Mariners comprehended that in order to come back to propriety and gaining profits , they had to make a splatter in the weak free agent and trade markets this winter, particularly in view to the rotation. The Mariners began the 2005-2006 off-season by hiring Japan's top catcher, Kenji Johjima, hitter Carl Everett and left-handed starter Jarrod Washburn.
