San Francisco, received its first ever Major League Baseball team in 1958, when New York Giants were relocated in the city. In 1883, the team started its career in the name of the Gothams National League. Soon in 1885 they were autographed as Giants and lived in New York until 1958. The Giants rank second after New York Yankees to earn largest winning percentage in the Major League Baseball. A constant winner, the Giants performed in World Series in six of the first seven decades of the 20th century. Under legendary manager Jim Mutrie, the franchise won National League flags in 1889-90. But team gave disappointing performance in 1890’s era. Hall of Famers Buck Ewing, Roger Connor, John Ward, Mickey Welch, Jom O'Rourke, Tim Keefe, Jesse Burkett, Amos Rusie, and George Davis were the star players of the team during this period.

The Giants were quite successful in 1904-1905; they won unforgettable World Series championship during these seasons. The franchise kept struggling for pennant in next five seasons but remained unsuccessful. The Giants bounced back to World Series once again in 1910 and won three pennants in 1911, 1913, and 1914. The Giants widen their winning customs into the 1920s, concluding first or second every season from 1917 to 1925. McGraw led the team to four consecutive pennants, from 1921-1924 and became the only NL franchise to register this record.during 1920s the bright spots of the Giants featured players such as: George Kelly, Frankie Frisch, Dave Bancroft, Ross Youngs, Art Nehf, Jesse Barnes, Heinie Groh, Irish Meusel, Travis Jackson, Hack Wilson, Fred Lindstrom, Bill Terry, Freddie Fitzsimmons, Rogers Hornsby (acquired in a blockbuster trade for Frisch), Edd Roush, Burleigh Grimes, Mel Ott, Lefty O'Doul, and Carl Hubbell. The Giants' final three years in New York City were unmemorable.

They slipped to third place the year after their World Series win and attendances fell short. Giants golden era of baseball in New York City moved to West in 1957. After moving to San Francisco, giants won their first division championship in 1971 but remained unsuccessful during rest of the decade. In 1999, with the arrival of Dusty Baker and outfielder Barry Bonds, the best player in baseball, the team fortunes turned around and team recorded 103 wins. In 2002 Giants won National League wild card but faced a defeat from Atlanta Braves in playoffs.

In 2000, the Giants inaugurated a beautiful new Pac Bell Park, located on San Francisco Bay and won the division title in 2002.
