The Milwaukee Brewers are a Major League Baseball team based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The Brewers is one of five teams in the Central Division of the National League. Formerly known as Seattle Pilots, the club plays home games at Miller Park in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and wears uniforms of white, blue and gold. The Brewers were the a member of the American League until 1998, then the team switched to the National League and made the Brewers the first club to switch from one major league to the other since the American League was established. The team takes its name from the city’s beer-making industry. In September 2004, the Brewers announced they had reached an oral agreement with Los Angeles investment banker Mark Attanasio to purchase the team for USD180 million. On January 13, 2005 the sale to Attanasio was completed at Major League Baseball’s quarterly owners meeting. Since Attanasio taking over the franchise, the team was able to finish 81-81 to secure its first non-losing record since 1992.

The brewers have a solid base of young talent assembled over the past years which includes Prince Fielder, Rickie Weeks, J.J Hardy and Corey Hart. Many fans see a good future for the team and 2005 as the beginning of new era, with the Brewers once again becoming competitive. The Brewers have hired former stars Yount as bench coach and Dale Sveum as third base coach, to coach for the 2006 season; both were popular players for the Brewers in the 1980s. Milwaukee made its first trip to the World Series in 1982, but they lost to the St. Cardinals. In that year Robin Yount led the American League in hits and doubles to win the first of his two American League awards. Yount won a second MVP award in 1989 and 1989, but the Brewers finished no better than third in their division from 1983 through 1991.Since their only post-season appearances in 1981-82, the franchise has had trouble competing. Poor management, a famished farm system and restricted financial resources has kept the Brewers at the near bottom of the league. Except in 1987 where they were at third place with 91-71 record under Tom Trebelhorn and a second place 90-72 record in 1992 under Phil Garner. Some of the baseball Hall all Famers to play for the Brewers are Robin Yount, Henry Aaron Paul Molitor, Rollie Fingers and Don Sutton.
