Atlanta, known as the city too busy to hate or "The Phoenix City", is the largest in the state of Georgia, with a population of slightly above four hundred thousand resident s. Atlanta is in the county seat of Fulton. Atlanta is famously known as the host city for the Summer Olympics in 1996. Atlanta grew in the early nineteenth century as a railway hub. Atlanta is located in the north western part of Georgia at the base of the Blue Ridge Mountains close to the Chattahoochee River.
In 1833, Hardy Ivy was the first European settler in Atlanta. Atlanta was founded in 1837 and established as a city ten years later. Atlanta was chosen as the state capital of Georgia in 1868. In 1864, at the peak of the Civil War, Atlanta was burned and almost annihilated. The city rebuilt after the war. Atlanta's economy is driven by the following industries; Manufacturing, Insurance, Communications, Retail Trade, Finance and the Convention and Trade Show Business. Atlanta is home to the most famous soft drink bottling company in the world, Coca-Cola which was founded in 1892 and several other major local and inte rnational firms e.g. United Parcel Service, Home Depot and BellSouth.

The largest drive in restaurant in the world is based in Atlanta. The city is also the site for the biggest piece of exposed granite in the Universe.
Atlanta is a major music industry with some of the most notable recording companies headquartered in the city e.g. LaFace Records and So So Def Records, with signings such as TLC, Ciara, Usher, Goodie Mob, Outkast, Toni Braxton and Jagged Edge, Lil Bow Wow, Da Brat, respectively. Several Grammy, Billboards and American Music Award winners live in the Atlanta area e.g. Bobby Brown and Whitney Houston, Kelly Rowland, Ludacris, Gladys Knight & the Pips, Jerry Reed and Lil Jon. Atlanta is home to four of the major sports franchises, e.g. Atlanta Braves (Major League Baseball), Atlanta Falcons (National Football League), Atlanta Thrashers (National Hockey League) and Atlanta Hawks (National Basketball Association).
