The Houston Astros are a Major League Baseball team based in Houston, Texas. The Astros franchise was established in 1962. The team is one of the six teams in the Central Division of the National League. The club plays at Enron Field in Houston, Texas and wear uniforms of white, gray, black and silver. The Astros rose to prominence in October 2005 when they went to the World Series for the first time in franchise history. On October 17, 1960, Judge Roy Hofheinz and the ownership group from Houston is awarded a franchise in the ten-team National League, named the Houston Colt.45s. On April 9, 1965, the Houston Colt.45s became the Houston Astros and inaugurates indoor baseball in Astrodome. Overall the Houston Astros has won one National League, four Central Division titles and two West Division titles. In 2005, the franchise got off to a poor start, dropping to 15 games below .500 (15-30) in late May. However, Houston went 42-17 and found themselves in the lead for the National League Wild Card. The Astros excellent pitching staff anchored by future Hall of Famer Roger Clemens, Andy Pettite and Roy Oswalt. Rookie starter Ezequel Astacio and Wandy Rodriguez were also successful.

In July alone, Houston Astros went 22-7, the best single month record in the club’s history. The franchise finished the 2005 regular season by winning a wild card berth on the final day of the regular season, just as they did in 2004. The Astros won their National League Division Series against the Atlanta Braves in four games. Chris Burke hit a home run to win the game by a score of 7-6. They went on to face the St. Louis Cardinals, after winning the first round. In the National League Championship Series, the Astros lost the first game in St. Louis, but would win the next three games with one in St. Louis and the Next two in Houston. Finally the series went back to St. Louis, where the Astros won the final game of the National League Championship Series and the final game played at Busch Stadium. The Astros were presented with the Warren C. Giles Trophy; current honorary National League President Williams Y. Giles presented the honorary. It was Warren Giles, father of William and President of the National League from 1951 to 1969, who in 1960 awarded the city of Houston the Major league franchise that would become the Houston Astros. The Astros met the Chicago White Sox in their first and only World Series. The White Sox won the World Series in the Best-of-seven series.
